Hi there! I’m Valerie.
Photography has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. In Ukraine, where I was born, every family owned a basic Soviet-issued camera, and a bathroom could turn into a makeshift darkroom in a pinch. When my family emigrated to the United States in the 90s, among the few valuable possessions we brought were stacks of black and white photographs my father and grandfather had developed themselves in such a fashion.
Since then, I’ve had a camera in my hands – film at first, then digital. In college, I learned technique and began to develop my personal style. My own kids have given me ample opportunity to perfect my skills under hectic, challenging conditions.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve had the chance to photograph families, events, milestones, children, and travel. I’ve had the opportunity to create my own photo projects and to help startups by documenting their services and products. I love a creative challenge.
I believe that a photograph should evoke a strong feeling, and I strive to capture dynamic emotion in a static image.
